Building Digital Trust – International Standards for a Secure and Resilient Future
Room: R205
Time: 14:00 to 15:00, 26 October 2025
Organizer: The British Standards Institution
Side Event Description: The proposed side event will highlight the role of international standards in building trust in digital systems, enhancing cyber resilience, and enabling cross-border cooperation—key objectives of the UN Convention against Cybercrime. It will showcase the UK’s strategic partnerships and the British Standards Institution’s (BSI) work in supporting trusted digital ecosystems, with a focus on Vietnam.
The programme will open with remarks from the British Embassy Hanoi, followed by an overview of the UK’s Digital Development Strategy and Digital Access Programme (DAP). The agenda will then turn to the role of international standards in building digital trust. Standards provide consensus-based, globally recognised frameworks that promote interoperability and enhance confidence in digital services. They support governments and businesses in protecting privacy, securing information, managing digital identities, and ensuring the safe use of digital technologies. BSI will present its International Standards-led Digitalisation Toolkit, a flagship project under the DAP. The Toolkit offers policymakers and industry leaders a structured way to apply international standards.
The event will also highlight Vietnam’s engagement with the Toolkit in 2024. In partnership with the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) and the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ), BSI delivered policy dialogues and training in supporting Vietnam’s digital development. More than 50 delegates from 25 agencies participated, reflecting Vietnam’s strong commitment to digital resilience. Building on this foundation, and immediately after the signing ceremony, BSI will deliver a further workshop in partnership with the Ministry of Public Security (27–30 October 2025) to consolidate lessons learned from the previous year and explore practical ways to strengthen digital trust and resilience through the application of international standards.
Expected Participants: 36-70 people
