Converging Threats: Tackling the Nexus of Cybercrime and Corruption in South-East Asia

Side Event Description: This side event will examine how corruption enables cybercrime and vice versa, using South-East Asia as a case study. It will highlight the need for coordinated legal, operational, and technological responses, supported by the complementary frameworks of UNCAC, UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), and the new UNCC.
Objectives:
– Raise awareness about the converging threats of corruption and cybercrime, using South-East Asia as a case study.
– Highlight case studies demonstrating how cybercriminal networks exploit systemic corruption.
– Explore how the new UNCC can be leveraged alongside UNCAC and UNTOC to strengthen regional responses.
– Promote dialogue and collaboration among governments, civil society, private sector, and international organizations.
– Emphasize the role of public-private partnerships and international cooperation in tackling the nexus.
