From Breach to Verdict — Egypt’s Comprehensive Approach for International Cyber Justice and Regional Capacity
Room: R305
Time: 12:30 to 13:30, 25 October 2025
Organizer: Ministry of Justice – Egypt
Exhibition Description: Egypt has taken bold and comprehensive steps to confront the rising tide of cybercrime that threatens nations, economies, and citizens. Guided by a clear cybersecurity vision, the government has built strong foundations to secure digital infrastructure, protect critical sectors, and safeguard personal data. With advanced policies, specialized units, and modern forensic labs, Egypt has strengthened its ability to investigate cyber incidents, preserve evidence, and pursue justice effectively.
Financial cybercrime is one of the fastest-growing challenges worldwide, and Egypt has made it a strategic priority. By monitoring online fraud, phishing, and e-commerce threats, authorities cooperate with banks and regulators to reinforce anti-money laundering frameworks and forensic accounting practices. These efforts protect citizens and enhance trust in Egypt’s financial systems and online economy.
Another focus is tackling illicit cryptocurrency activities. While enforcing strict trading rules, Egypt has invested in tools to trace blockchain transactions, identify criminal wallets, and seize assets linked to fraud, laundering, and terrorism financing—demonstrating its commitment to security and public trust.
Egypt’s efforts extend beyond its borders. It partners with organizations such as Interpol, ITU, and UNODC to share intelligence, participate in cyber drills, and boost readiness against global threats. These collaborations amplify Egypt’s capacity and strengthen its position as a regional cybersecurity leader.
Looking ahead, Egypt is determined to expand the use of artificial intelligence in forensics, deepen public-private partnerships, and raise awareness among citizens and institutions. The mission is clear: stay ahead of cybercriminals, protect the nation’s digital future, and contribute to global cyber stability.
Side Event Description: Cybercrime is a growing threat that transcends borders and undermines security, stability, and trust in the digital age. Addressing it requires more than national action; it calls for international cooperation, judicial coordination, and sustained capacity-building.
Situated as a bridge of continents and a hub of global connectivity, Egypt is uniquely positioned to advance international cyber justice while strengthening African capacities.
This side event will highlight Egypt’s comprehensive approach to cyber justice, tracing the lifecycle of a cybercrime case — from breach to verdict. A real-life case study will illustrate how law enforcement, prosecution, and adjudication can coordinate to overcome technical, legal, and jurisdictional challenges. The discussion will underscore the complexities of handling digital evidence, the importance of due process, and the necessity of cross-border cooperation.
At the core is Egypt’s strategic geolocation, both politically and digitally. As a balanced partner to all regions and a central node for global internet cables, Egypt serves as a natural hub for connecting nations and institutions in the fight against cybercrime.
The event will also announce the establishment of an African Center of Excellence in Combating Cybercrime, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The Center will provide training, knowledge exchange, and technical assistance to empower African institutions to respond effectively to complex cyber threats and deliver justice in the digital era.
Through this initiative, Egypt reaffirms its role as a continental leader and global partner. By moving “from breach to verdict,” Egypt demonstrates that cooperation, innovation, and capacity-building are the keys to protecting societies, supporting victims, and upholding the rule of law in cyberspace.
