From Framework to Fieldwork: INTERPOL’s Role in Advancing the UN Cybercrime Convention

Room: R343

Time: 12:30 to 13:30, 25 October 2025

Organizer: INTERPOL

Side Event Description: As the international community gathers in Hanoi to mark the next step in the development of the United Nations Cybercrime Convention, attention is turning to how the global law enforcement community can turn the articles into actions.

INTERPOL, as the world’s largest police organization, plays a unique role in transforming shared frameworks into real-world impact. With its global mandate, operational capabilities, and wide membership, INTERPOL is already enabling the kind of cross-border cooperation envisioned by the Convention – from threat intelligence sharing to the disruption of cyber-enabled criminal networks.

This side event will present INTERPOL’s unified, multi-crime-area approach to addressing cybercrime and its convergence with financial crime and crimes against children. It will also highlight how INTERPOL supports regional implementation through unique operational platforms such as its Asia and South Pacific Desk.

Objectives:
Showcasing INTERPOL’s existing infrastructure for international operational coordination in line with the Convention;
Emphasising how a unified, cross-cutting approach strengthens investigations and victim protection;
Highlighting regional implementation models, with a focus on Asia and the South Pacific;
Offering a platform for constructive dialogue with UN Member States and partners on operationalising the Convention.
