Side Event Description: The adoption of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime (2024) marks a pivotal moment in global efforts to combat cyber threats. The Convention’s Article 54 calls for technical assistance to developing countries and promotes international cooperation and capacity building.

Established through a landmark agreement signed on June 9, 2023, between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the State of Qatar, UNODC Regional Center for Combating Cybercrime in Doha now serves as UNODC’s central training facility on prevention and combating cybercrime, under its Global Programme on Cybercrime. The Center is one of the most suitable platforms of the UNODC to realize the implications of Article 54 of the UN Convention against Cybercrime. In this context, the side event is planned to present UNODC’s ongoing efforts in provision of capacity building activities through its longstanding Global Programme on Cybercrime and the recently established UNODC Regional Center for Combating Cybercrime in Doha
The Center’s approach emphasizes delivery of structured, practical training programs based on standard curriculum, importance of research-based prevention efforts, with localized delivery of mentorship ensuring that capacity building efforts are impactful and enduring.

This side event will showcase the approach of Global Programme on Cybercrime towards the capacity building efforts, Center’s achievements within last 2 years, share lessons learned, and explore models for sustainable training that align with the Convention’s goals.
